Train-the-trainer workshop

DLN is organizing a workshop to bring together DLN-affiliated scholars specialising in the fields of philosophy of science, and Science, Technology, and Society (STS) studies. The aim of the workshop is to inculcate the skills needed to conduct training in epistemic catharsis.

Description of workshop

The train-the-trainer workshop is a two-day event that will unpack the topic of ‘epistemic catharsis’. Epistemic catharsis refers to a process of emotional or intellectual relief and transformation that occurs when an individual or group confronts, understands, or resolves deeply held beliefs, misconceptions, or intellectual challenges. In the context of knowledge and understanding, it often involves a profound shift in perspective or a new way of thinking about complex issues. This process can lead to a clearer and more coherent understanding of a subject, as well as an emotional release or sense of liberation from previously held constraints or confusions. It combines elements of intellectual insight with emotional release, helping to reconcile conflicting ideas or resolve confusion.

Aim of the workshop

The aim of this workshop is to bring together scholars affiliated with DLN to inculcate the skills needed to conduct training in epistemic catharsis. These scholars have specialised in the fields of philosophy of science, and science, technology, and society (STS) studies. They have extensive experience working at the intersection of various scientific disciplines, particularly those related to medicine, biotechnology, and other fields in the life sciences. Through interactive sessions, the participants will reflect on the challenges that they encounter in their work. They will then focus on applying the traditional concepts in the theory of science to address certain challenges and equip them in the task of inducing reflection among the diverse actors they engage with in their research.
