A database to understand Parkinson’s disease

Project overview

Project lead: Charalampos Tzoulis
Institution: University of Bergen

Research group

The aim of the project is to develop a comprehensive molecular database and network to understand Parkinson’s disease. The team is integrating results from analysis of DNA, DNA-methylation, chromatin-modifications, RNA and protein in brain tissue from healthy persons and individuals with Parkinson's disease. The resulting database will provide new information about causes, disease mechanisms, biomarkers and targets for treatment of this neurodegenerative disease.

Innovation: The project includes considerable technical and methodical innovation to integrate the different types of biological data.

The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and the Bergen Research Foundation
