About the Legacy Workshop
The Centre for Digital Life Norway (DLN) has been supported by the Research Council of Norway for the period 2016-2026. Therefore, in 2025, we will convene a concluding workshop, called the Legacy Workshop, with ca. 40 key actors and stakeholders from DLN’s activities (past and present) to reflect on the centre’s nearly decade of work and collect lessons and insights. This event will emphasize perspectives from DLN’s network of projects from a variety of biotechnology domains including industrial biotech, medical and pharmaceutical digital technology, aquaculture, sustainable tech, and responsible research and innovation, as well as perspectives on DLN as an infrastructure. Insights collected at this event will form the basis for our end-of-project reporting and communication of our findings for the biotech community, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Through small group work, large group discussions, and keynote presentations, participants will engage in dialogue on several important themes for DLN:
- Has DLN been able to transform research, innovation and training in Norwegian biotechnology to foster transdisciplinarity and so contribute to responsible and sustainable creation of value for Norwegian society?
- Has DLN stimulated to more national collaboration between researchers and institutions, and connections with policy, industry, and society at large?
- Has DLN made a major contribution to move Norwegian biotechechnology towards open, inclusive, and innovative biotech research?
- In a rapidly evolving policy and scientific landscape, has DLN been able to meet societal challenges and develop solutions?
- Looking forward: Where is Norwegian biotech heading in 2040 – and what lessons can we pull from DLN to influence this?
The Legacy Workshop is co-planned and facilitated by Nicole Njå of AFF, together with members of DLN.
Through its two funding periods, DLN has regularly hosted workshops to reflect on the centre’s work, goals, and ways forward, in particular in Selbu (2018) and Lysaker (2019):
